Your Adversary

1Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walk about, seeking whom he may devour:

Before we get started, lets translate the name adversary.
Adversary means- an opponent (in a lawsuit); specially, Satan (as the arch-enemy)

Before we start this lesson, let's translate the name Devil
Devil means-  a traducer; specially, Satan--false accuser, devil, slanderer.

Now with the translation, let's re-read the scripture
Be sober, be vigilant; because your false accuser the opponent, as a roaring lion, walk about seeking whom he can devour;

Now with that understanding, let's take it back to Genesis, in the beginning where the serpent challenges the woman with what God said to her about eating from the trees of the garden,

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, Yea, has God said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Now is that what God said?....NO.  Then the serpent goes on to say,  Genesis 3:4 And the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die: Is that what God said?.....NO. Then he goes on to say, Genesis 3:5 For God does know that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

It seems like this teaching is springing up, I'm hearing more and more teachers teaching this "we are little gods doctrine," now we know where this teaching comes from.

So what did the Devil do here in verse five, he accused God of not being who he is and that is THE TRUTH, the scripture says, he is the way the truth and the life. The serpent said to the woman that if she ate of the fruit, she would not die as God said, ( as the truth said)  and that the real truth was that she will be like a god herself knowing good and evil......and she fell for his lie, she was deceived.

Because from the time Eve ate of the fruit, until now, men have died......... until Christ.

 The Devil is the opponent of truth he is anti (against) truth when it comes to God's word. This is the Devil, the accuser who fights against the truth and he is looking for an opponent, someone he can come up against and challenge them in the word of God.

He challenged Jesus in Matthew chapter 4, when he came at Jesus with half truths, but Jesus came back every time with the TRUTH, and stated to the devil what is written. He will come at you the same way, with half truths, fragments, and a little light, he does not have the full brightness of the light like the sun. He is an opponent, and an opponent is one who takes the opposite side, the devil takes the opposite side of what is truth, and his weapon of mass destruction is,  "has God said," he is setting you up for the battle he needs to get you to doubt the word of God, to see God's truth in a lessor light.

He is looking for an opponent that he can devour with his half truths in God's court of love, in God's court of forgiveness, when God says it's been washed in his blood, when God says it's been made whole, when God says  he has given you the victory here comes the opponent, the adversary looking for someone (the believer) he can devour, challenging them with his half truths but we are not falling for his tactics, we are standing strong on the word of God and we will not be moved from off of it.

Unlike Eve, don't find yourself in a discussion with the devil, (the opponent) about what God has said to you concerning his word..... don't dialog with the devil. If God said it believe it and stand on his word by faith and your opponent will leave you alone.....for a season.

I love y'all, and as my husband,Pastor Wilson says, Walk in VICTORY........
